HOMAGE TO JOHN HENRY by Neil Goodman
Neil Goodman is a sculptor and educator, known for bronze works that combine elegant arrangements and forms with hand-wrought, textured surfaces. He has explored a wide range of formats—still-life compositions, wall and floor installations, free-standing works and monumental public art—in a formalist style that has evolved from spare representation to abstraction and minimalism.
This sculpture that was included in an exhibition called the “Bellingham Series” from Struve Gallery in Chicago from 1988. It is one of the last available sculptures from that body of work. The show was reviewed by James Yood for Art Forum as well as Alan Artner in the Chicago Tribune. The work was influenced by the language of weights and balances, hence the corresponding title which references the work of John Henry.
This cast bronze work is 12 inches high by 24 inches wide and 12 inches deep.
